You don't need the lights to find the home keys.  :)  All modern 
keyboards have raised index marks on the F and J keys (unless you're 
Apple and then it's the D and K keys for whatever crazy reason).



As for your wall switch placement, get one of these (many similar ones 
from different brands)  (watch out for the line wrap):
