Yes, this would certainly work, but that placeholder file system might
get flagged on our systems to be backed up.
Another way to handle this is to set up ZFS quota and reservations so
that the file system(s) in question do not actually take up the full
capacity of the underlying zpool, and leave that portion available for
emergencies.
