Why are these mutually exclusive?
I am on both paths after a fashion.
My take on it started with Linux admin is more fun and pays a little more
than Windows admin.
and
Open-source cloud infrastructure is what I use by preference. Buying cloud
instances for more than one or two 24/7 servers is overpriced. I have a
buddy who specialized in xenserver/vmware and he seems to be having no
problem finding things to do with internal-network virtualization stuff.
If you mean hardward engineer when you say cloud infrastructure manager, I
can't help much. I haven't touched much hardware in a long time. The big
players in the cloud are also big players in noc management.
Focus on what interests you and a path will open up. This is true because
your enthusiasm shows through.
