I have hear horror stories of IT support techs getting finger tip skin
flaking/peeling (fungus-like) from touching the keyboards used by the slobs
who eat over their keyboard.
Once I refused to fix a system until I could get a replacement keyboard.
The original had bits of moldy food between the keys and the key tops had a
grey/greenish slime at the edges.
I have a USB happy hacker keyboard I would lug around and would insist on
using (special admin-only support keys :-).

As long as the general population is passive, apathetic, diverted to
consumerism or hatred of the vulnerable, then the powerful can do as they
please, and those who survive will be left to contemplate the outcome.
