Why a whole PBX? How many people are in your family? If you're like
most people and have a wireless phone system already, then just buy
one of these:
<http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LO098O>, plug your wireless
phone's base station and an ethernet cable into it, and be done with
it. I LOVE mine! It's $40, and there are NO monthly fees like with
Vonage or MagicJack.
You can use Google Voice for free calling in the lower 48 states (and
cheap everywhere else) or use just about any VOIP service out there.
Many are available in a pop-up list used for quick configuration. I'm
also using <http://www.voip.ms> with great satisfaction. I transfered
my old phone number to them for $25. Calls are dirt cheap. Excellent
call quality with Google Voice. There's a barely noticeable delay with
voip.ms. No real downsides from a dedicated line so far. I may have to
configure QoS settings in my router to ensure that, though. If you go
with voip.ms, you can pay an additional $1.50 a month (their cost) for
Emergency 911 service.
