Have you tried using mailx? That will send the email via whatever your MTA is (Sendmail in this case).
"cat <file> | mailx -s <subject> <recipient>"
-OR-
"echo <body> |mailx -s <subject> <recipient>"
Use file for long message bodies or use body for short ones e.g.
echo "This is the test email" |mailx -s "Test via Sendmail" rb at ale.org
There are more advanced options to change the sender or other parameters.

Subject: [ale] Cannot sendmail
I have my gmail server set up to use bronosky.com as its outgoing mail
server. That's why this email appears to come from bronosky.com and
not gmail.com. So, I know that my server is configured to some degree
of correctness. However, I cannot send email using sendmail or
sendmail.postfix on the command line. It's the weirdest thing. Any
suggestions as to where to start?
Here is what I am trying to do:

(notice the date on that posting. ;-)
