That's a very good question.  I'll have to play with it and see.  In 
general, the VM is always up, so the process I use is: 1. shutdown VM, 
2. close virtualbox window, 3. shutdown MacOSX

I'm wondering if I were to wait a bit before shutting down the Mac after 
shuting down the VM.

I think I'll play with it a bit this evening, with and without the VM.
