Yeah, there's now way to avoid using those on the command prompt. Its funny that they work at the : prompt in vi.

Now to pour a bit of gas on the fire.
You probably don't know it, but unless you do the following
set -o vi
Bash by default is set to Emacs, so everyone bashing emacs, you are
using emac in way you did not know
Here some emacs commands you are using I bet to move around
Basic movement
C-f forward char
C-b backward char
C-p previous line
C-n next line
M-f forward one word
M-b backward one word
C-a beginning of line
C-e end of line
C-v one page up
Just to point out that many of you have been closet emac users and
didn't know it.
