[ale] Warning - Check Warranty when you buy a HDD

Unfortunately, another one of my hard drives just started throwing reallocated sector errors. So, I went to Fry's to look for a replacement. I discovered an annoying trend. Many, if not most, of all the drive boxes said they had a 1 year or 3 year warranty. Well, I don't like to buy anything with less than a 5 year warranty, as they typically fail before that anyway. Even among the same model number of drive, many of the boxes had different warranty levels stated. And, you sometimes really have to look for that data. The Seagate boxes I saw state the warranty on the top of the box flap where you would open it. I had to search for a while for a box which said the contents had a 5 year warranty. Even so, my receipt says 1 year warranty, so I'm going to have to verify on Seagate's website.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

Buyer beware.

Sincerely,

Ron
