This is old news from last month but I've only found out about it myself in
the last week, apparently thanks to an iheartubuntu contest someone has
Netflix streaming working very well via patching the Wine development
branch, and adding in a custom player that installs Silverlight 4 and
Firefox. I've been playing with this today, so for those that are
interested here you go:

There are PPAs for Ubuntu 12.10 and 12.04 (should work for Mint, Xubuntu,
and Lubuntu as well):
http://www.iheartubuntu.com/2012/11/ppa-for-netflix-desktop-app.html

this is the author's homepage for patching, building from source:
http://www.compholio.com/wine-compholio/

more instructions including Fedora:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tfte5su5DIA

author has created DEBS for Ubuntu 11.10 and 11.04 as well:
https://launchpad.net/~ehoover/+archive/compholio/

I myself have installed the Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) DEBS on Debian Squeeze (my
daily driver/laptop) as well as a box I'm still running Ubuntu 11.04 on.
The only issue with Debian Wheezy and Squeeze (as reported here):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/netflix-desktop/+bug/1089976?comments=all

is for ttf-mscorefonts-installer requires this:

echo ttf-mscorefonts-installer msttcorefonts/accepted-mscorefonts-eula
select true | debconf-set-selections

Otherwise while not built for Debian Squeeze, I have it running with the
Natty DEBS on Squeeze as well, working well other than I have not seen so
far the option to select HD or standard-def (while I do have that on my box
running Ubuntu 11.04).
