[ale] Linux bashed by Apple?

The "Linux desktop" is broken. Always has been and, if nothing is done
about it, always will be. There are too many competing technologies
that change at a developer's whim for it to stabilize and advance the
way end users need. Notice that Valve is porting to Steam to Ubuntu
12.04. They're not doing that because they just happen to like Ubuntu.
They're specifically targeting Ubuntu so that they can provide
specific support for a known system. Sure, it'll probably work on
other distros, but they aren't going to support you in doing so.

Read Miguel de Icaza's followup to the article[1]. He was a core
member of GNOME. He now uses OS X as his desktop OS. He has a little
bit of insight as to why one is succeeding while the other isn't.

"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts
pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it
is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become
drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted."
