[ale] invisible mouse cursor, kubuntu 10.04

I am running Kubuntu 10.04. After periods of inactivity (overnight) the 
mouse cursor is gone.
The mouse still functions. By guesswork I can change focus, click on 
icons, etc but the cursor is gone.

Tried upgrading to 10.11 but same problem and I didn't like a lot of new 
features. So back to 10.04
The mouse is a Logitech wireless.
