That's a bit like saying wheels today are pretty similar to wheels from
the stone age. Sure, cars and trucks and others add automotive
functionality and ride comfort, but wheels haven't changed a whole lot.

If you weren't being literal, why did you quote literal trees?

But as far as extremes, RPM today is pretty similar to RPM from 15 years
ago. Sure, yum and yast and others add repo functionality and fetching
dependencies, but RPM hasn't changed a whole lot.
