Well,

IF you know the erroring package, you can always use
Dpkg -i --force-$SOMETHING /path/to/apt-cache/foo.deb

See dpkg -i --force-help IIRC

This will allow you to overwrite, ignore requirements, and generally completely break your system if you insist.

Good idea.  Way ahead of you.  I'm still erroring out.  dpkg error (1)
is the new issue.  I need to step away from this and come back with
fresh eyes.
