[ale] ubuntu upgrade issues

Sounds like grub didn't actually load properly. You'll need to use a live CD
to get back in. Once in, chroot to the real system and run grub-install with
the correct HD settings (most often is hd0:0 but Ubuntu uses the new grub2
so that changed to hd1:0 - drives number from 1 but partitions number from 0

Check back with M.Trouch's presentation on grub2 from about a year ago.
