So you're running hwclock and date on your vmserver via ssh then running
them locally on the server from which you initiated the ssh?

It appears your system (date) time and hwclock on vmserver are more or
less in sync but the ones on the host from which you initiated your
commands are way out of sync.   Difference is about 5 1/2 hours and both
are using EDT so none of it is due to ZULU/GMT time issues.   ON the
local host you might want to run "hwclock --systohc" to set the hwclock
to the correct time.   On normal systems on a reboot it is the hwclock
time that is used to set the initial system (date) time.
