VPN takes over your networking stack. Your IP when you're on VPN is
likely not seen as 192.168.10.101. Try logging into another system and
running "who am i" while on VPN and you'll see your VPN IP address.
(Or run lsof -i to see what connections are coming out of your laptop -
those should have the IP address or hostname - if they have the latter
nslookup/host/dig will show you the IP associated with the name.)
Since you're initiating the print from the laptop it is probably trying
to assert the 192 IP at that point so is knocking the VPN connection off
line.

Subject: [ale] weird printer problem
I emailed Samsung, but they said I needed to CALL tech support, and I
just don't have time for that right now..
I have this wonderful Samsung CLP-315W printer hooked up, working fine..
the PROBLEMN is when I print to it from my desktop, it disconnects my
laptop from the VPN!
I work all day from my laptop, but "Sometimes" ( lunch, breaks...) I
wanna print SOMETHING.. and when I do, my laptop pukes, disconnects, and
I have to reconnect to the VPN..
suggestions? clues?? ideas?
the samsung is connected via ethernet (wired) to the same router the
laptop is, but the laptop is connected wirelessly.
the printer is 192.168.10.100 and the laptop is 192.168.10.101
