I do see some variation in the Big & Tall sizes but not that much - usually it is just a matter of some being a tad tighter than others.

That's another pet peeve about clothing. Why do they call it Big AND Tall when the sizes are generally either for Big OR Tall but not both?  They seem to assume you're either short and fat or tall and skinny and can't conceive of tall people that are more ...ummmm... proportional - yeah that's the word.

I get variations in the same brand/style.  Levis  550's 40/36's are not
all created equal.
