I would vote for home automation and/or security implementations,
particularly a 'roll your own' sensor/setback hvac thermostat with remote
control via Android phone, lighting contol (why is it that kids can never
think to turn off the lights when they leave for the day/go to bed?), and
security cameras with maybe Zoneminder.

FWIW, there is a short article in June 201 Popular Science "Suds Slinger"
about an iphone controlled beer canon dispenser made from a mini fridge,
some servos and an air compressor  (45psi will chunk a can of beer 15').
