You can't parallel park in front of the physics building, but there are
twelve metered spots next to the Student Center you can do that at.
There are a handful of other places on campus where you can parallel
park on the streets, but all of them (except for the public parking at
State and Ferst and the public parking at the Student Center and maybe
one or two other places) are permit-only. Permits now cost $632 for one
year. I personally find it absurd and deplorable that it's so difficult
to get around and to campus, but I don't have any say in the matter.

Page 69 of the PDF shows the proposed transportation routes through
campus (rant mode may be turning on). It is stupefying how a campus
can work while being wholly impassable in any convenient amount of time.
How is every organization on campus supposed to get food to their
events? Their proposal even cuts off civilian road access to the
Student Center. But they're probably planning on demolishing the
Student Center and rebuilding something oriented specifically towards
freshmen or high school students in the mean time. In my loud opinion,
this is what happens when universities are run like businesses; they
pander to the consumers (the parents footing the bill... NOT the
students) who write their paychecks. At this point I don't see the
quality of education suffering here, so don't get me wrong, but the
flabbergasting level of unnecessary and uncalled for bureaucracy stifles
reality on this campus and tries to turn it into some ridiculous
portrait where helicopter parents can send their beautiful precious
snowflakes.
And yes, it should be noted that while I did say "the parking situation
at Tech has never been easy" I meant maybe in the last ten or fifteen
years.
