Jim,

I'm not sure what your saying, but I think its well established that
Novell had IP that thwarted the SCO litigation.

That IP has to either stay with Novell which will be owned by
Attachmate or it goes to CPTN Holdings.

(Was that IP patents or copyright?  If patents, I thought they only
lasted 20 years or less, so how old are they?)

As to what CPTN (MS) bought, it is suspected to be Word Perfect
patents.  There is an ongoing Novell / MS dispute about them.

And in the last big Novell / MS dispute, MS paid out $536 million to
Novell for Netware patent infringement.

So it is at least a logical argument the MS wanted to buy the Word
Perfect patents and bring that issue to a close.
