[ale] best cross platform development evironment

There are some relatively big projects written in Ruby on Rails.  I
think the entire openSUSE Build Service (OBS) is in rails, or at least
the front end.  There are at least a couple full time developers
advancing OBS.

If you're looking to deploy a Web GUI, then RoR is definitely worth
checking out.

I'm not aware of any significant projects written in pure ruby.
