One option is to install Ubuntu, Kubuntu, MythBuntu, MediaBuntu, etc and add the repos to the /etc/apt/sources.list file.  I personally run ubuntu on all my machines.  But on my MythTV boxes I have additional lines in the sources.list file for mythbuntu to get all the mythv (related) packages  too.

works like a charm.  Apt is very very good at building the dependancies across the repos to make sure you dont get hurt.
