[ale] Trimming MPEG files

I just tried the 'Record TV' function with a TV tuner in a Vista box (and 
what a dog _that_ is!). Now I have several hours' and 43 GBy worth of MPEG 
in a single file. Any recommended tools to trim an hour or so off the 
beginning and 7 or so off the end of this recording?

Win/Vista suggestions would save me a lot of time, but I'ld like Linux 
tools as well.
