Precisely - like I mentioned, I could put the kids on a treadmill to
generate the power to recharge a car
(in theory, at least).  I can burn stuff, use PV, hydro, wind, etc.

For an ICE auto, I'm stuck with having to purchase a high-energy
hydrocarbon fluid.
