[ale] Linux distros

I have settled on Gentoo for the past several years but I freely admit 
that desktop setup is a pain - not as bad as it used to be, but still a 
pain. 

I often tell people that Gentoo "gets out of my way," and it does.  But 
it rewards deep understanding of Linux as a whole and in the details as 
well.
