Commercial release DVD?  Yes. Absolutely.

You will need to find a way to decode the defective by design
DVD restriction mechanism.

On Ubuntu, I've heard this could be as easy as using the Add
and Update Software utility to search for ubuntu-restricted-extras
and install it.
