handbrake has several 'presets' for various types of devices (Apple's
flock is well-represented),
so it would probably depend on what your device supports. I just ran
handbrakeCLI with the iPod
preset, in from the DVD drive, out to the .mp4 file.
the -z option lists the presets for HandBrakeCLI
