[ale] How can I mimic Apple's terrific screen graphics and text resolution ?

No answers to your mimic questions, just info...Apple uses text anti-
aliasing via it's Quartz 2D engine. Google "mac os x quartz text anti-
aliasing" and you'll get lots of hits. Here is the Wikipedia page:
