I had sent an email about a problem with Fedora 11 after an update no
longer recognizing audio cds. There has been a bug report on RH about
this happening about the same time as when I had encountered it. The
problem appears to be centered around 3 packages, udev, libudev0, and
libvolume_id. The update brought them up to version 141-4, by backing
down to 141-3, the system will recognize the audio cd.
Upon the suggestion from one of the Linux forums I tried starting up
Grip to see if that worked. It did, I was able to rip the cd and play
the encoded tracks in Rhythmbox. I was then also able to dupe the cd
using Brasero. However Rhythmbox was not able to do anything with the cd
as it never "saw" it. My guess that it is hit or miss as to what will
work and what won't. For me it's fine as I never play the original, I'll
rip it and dupe a copy for my car palyer and store the original.
