There is a Linux Administrator position opening up in my team at the
AJC.  If anyone is interested, feel free to send me your resume.  I'm

description:

Position Summary
    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is seeking a Senior Web
Administrator that will administer the newspaper's internet/intranet
infrastructure. The Web Administrator will install and configure web
server software and hardware to support mostly LAMP-driven (Python,
Ruby/Rails, PHP) multimedia websites. The Web Administrator is also
responsible for website performance and functionality and serves as
the technical point of contact for the newspaper's Internet
Technologies Group, including coordination with vendors for remote and
on-site support. This is not a web developer position.

Position Qualifications
 1. Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or
equivalent training/certification/work experience
 2. Experience: Minimum 4 years computer/network related education or
equivalent experience, including supporting a multi-tiered website;
exposure to network security concepts required

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies
 1. Expert knowledge of all aspects of Unix/Linux operating systems
and server administration, including the various Internet protocols
and technologies used by the operating system
 2. Package management and vulnerability maintenance required
 3. Experience with RPM and RHEL4&5 preferred
 4. Familiarity with subversion or other code management tools
 5. Advanced knowledge and experience in Linux, Apache (including
compiling modules into, or using dynamic modules), MySQL, Python, and
PHP
 6. Ability to deploy, maintain, and secure SFTP, SSH and Apache SSL
 7. Knowledge of Internet Protocols HTTP, SMTP, FTP
 8. Proficient in Virtual Servers, Traffic Monitoring, Ticket Systems
 9. Strong scripting skills required for web administration tasks
10. Ability to plan and accomplish goals within a team environment;
May lead and direct the work of others; May report directly to a
project lead or manager
11. Ability to multi-task required
12. Strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills required
13. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are paramount.

Primary Tasks/Responsibilities
 1. Assure that appropriate server failure and disaster recovery
processes are in place and viable to ensure timely recovery from
server related malfunctions
 2. Responsible for defining appropriate emergency procedures and
their readiness, as well as their implementation in case of an
emergency
 3. Performs the ongoing day-to-day operation of the server software,
including maintaining system security, monitoring usage statistics and
the logs, modifying configuration settings and backing up the system
 4. Process monitoring, documentation, and revisions
 5. Assist in the design, specification, implementation and
documentation of server solutions introduced into the environment
 6. Install and manage hardware, operating systems, and application
environments for the Intranet/Internet
 7. Perform and present research for troubleshooting problems and new
technology application
 8. Configure and optimize servers to assure compliance with company
security policies and performance requirements
 9. Support change management and configuration management policies
10. Perform capacity planning to ensure appropriate space is available
for growth
11. Serve as the point of contact for the delivery of technical
services to the Internet Technologies Group, engaging additional IT
teams and coordination with vendors for remote and on-site support, as
necessary
12. Works independently and as a member of a team
13. Perform other duties as needed and as directed by supervisor
14. This is an on-call position and requires after hour support.
