[ale] Comcast Caps Data at 250G/Month

In fact parts of this story were missed in that others ALREADY have caps
of 10-30 GB per month so in comparison 250 GB per month seems quite
generous. However, as with the other posts I still think it sucks big
time.

I do disagree a little with the prior post - the 250 GB is data transfer
not necessarily "stored". If you watch videos on line or surf porn
sites (or maybe just your own Family's shared pictures on places like
Flickr) you're apt to have quite a lot of "transfer" that you don't keep
permanently.

October 1 for residential customers. But, instead of charging you for
every GB you go beyond that in a month, Comcast is getting a bit more
byzantine-if you blow the cap twice in six months, they may terminate
your service altogether.

grandma can understand: 250GB = 50 million emails! 250,000 hi-res photo
uploads of the grand kids! But in reality, if you're sharing your
connection with roommates and downloading legitimate VOD stuff from
Apple or Vudu, yet alone your torrentz, hitting 250GB in a month is not
that far from reality. And now that Comcast has thrown their hat into
the cap ring, it's not unlikely to assume other biggies will follow.
Guhhhh.

I agree the capping sucks and believe me I am not a comcast fan, but
where do you store all this data you download, new drives every couple
months? 250 gig worth of web pages will take you more than a month to
read, so I'm assuming it's data downloads and maybe vpn/rdp/etc
traffic. So that's 8.3 Gigabytes a day or 350 megs an hour... Seems
pretty generous to me, though I understand that they advertised and sold

you unlimited access.
