I don't think sed works on binary files.

I'm not creating the MP3 files, I already have them (they're podcasts) and
they start out with images stored in the file.  (Yes it's album art.)  And
it's not software, it's a Sansa View MP3 player.

Anyway I ended up hacking eyeD3 to add the feature.
