I usually make my /boot about 100M.  I may not understand the question  
though, you keep referring to 'boot partitions' which is plural.  You  
only need one boot partition.

I assume you are referring to gnome/kde, yes, you can choose the one  
you want when you login.

With 4GB of memory, you probably don't need any swap, but I usually  
create a 1 gig swap space.
