[ale] .htaccess

Hi,
I have a directory structure in Fedora core 5 as follows:
/var/www/html/admin
In admin there is a .htaccess file that contains the following information:
AuthName ByPassword
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /usr/local/adminuser
Require valid-user
This works in Solaris 9 but, for some reason, the user/password popup
does not happen in Fedora. Is there something that I need to do in
the httpd.conf file?
In both cases the adminuser file has been built using htpasswd.
I think there is a way to restrict access to a directory with
username/password by just using the httpd.conf file, but I do not
know how to do it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Terry Bailey
