I also think that MS's Yahoo! acquisition attempt, in which they say
it's "for the people", is quite interesting.  Why does MS need the
people so badly?   That, IMHO, is a sign that MS is having trouble
recruiting quality talent on the open market.   Back in the early 90s
I lost track of the number of friends who went off to work in
Redmond.... these days I can't recall running into anyone who was even
considering working for MS.  That, to me, indicates a big problem for
them.
