[ale] I386 packages wont run

Is there any reason not to use something like Pidgin?
I understand that Debian actually keeps the latest version around
somewhere, and I've heard that Ubuntu's "prevu" automatic backporting
utility works on Debian, too.
By the way, proprietary software vendors don't tend to support amd64.
If you'd like to see that change, complain loudly to them all...
