wow, after I installed bcrypt, I was working on something else and did an 
aptitude install.. it showed "holding back bcrypt"..
so I did an aptitude upgrade, and it updated bcrypt!
Setting up bcrypt (1.1-3) ...

so.. debian has a newer version that the owners web site??
