[ale] Stretching 802.11 as far as it will go...in the ALE context?

Greetings Ale'ers..
I was curious how far members have gotten 802.11 to go in the ATL metro
area? I am of course referring to distance in miles.. If so which antennas
did ya use? Commercial or home built? did you mount the antennas on towers?
If you did do something of notable distance i.e. a mile or more how did you
aim the antennas? (assuming a point to point connection)?
