[ale] Information on Linux tun/tap?

Mike,

I have done a little with tun/tap.  The one thing that held me up for  
a while is that you have to open the driver in your C/C++ program  
before you can 'ifconfig' it to give it an IP address.  I was trying  
to do the opposite for a while.  After that, it was smooth sailing.   
I had emailed the author (Max if I recall) and he was helpful.
