[ale] Decrypting zoneinfo files

zdump will dump a time zone file. You can edit the output then use zic
to compile it.

e.g. zdump -v EST5EDT

Not that I've done that yet - time's awastin'. Ah well at least my
RHEL 3 Prod Servers have been updated already.

There's a fairly long thread about all of this at LinuxQuestions - I
think all possible questions related to Linux DST have been asked and
answered there.

By the way - don't forget Java keeps it's own timezone (zi) files. You
need to update 1.3.1 to 1.3.1-19 if you're using it and use tzupdater
from Sun on 1.4 and 1.5 versions prior to certain levels (1.4.2-12 for
the former - I'm too lazy to look up the latter at the moment.)

John,

Have you thought about just setting the servers to GMT and being done
with it.

ie. How many users actually see the local time presented by the
computer. Would it really impact your business if those users were
presented a GMT time.

Red Hat servers. I see that the utility "zic" can be used to compile a
text file to a zoneinfo file....but is there any way to decompile it
after that? We'd like to edit the zoneinfo and then recompile it.
