a) Until recently I ran Debian on a Powerbook G4 (1.3Ghz;512MB). I 
rarely needed flash; when I did, I ran OS X using 
http://mac-on-linux.sourceforge.net/ . It doesn't sound like this will 
appeal to you, but I thought I'd point it out as a possibility.
