Ditto what Chris said.  If you use Linux md tools (software raid) then
you have greater control over recovery.  I've just seen too many
problems with recovery from hardware raid, and I've seen nothing but
ease from using software raid... in Linux of course.  Software raid in
Windows is a much different story. ;-)
