Again, my hypothesis suggests very infrequent, very low-bandwidth uplink
transmissions.  Recall the handheld satellite phone and its power
requirements in order to solve a much, much harder uplink problem.

There is no reason to assume that cell phones and a possible XM radio
uplink use anywhere near the same frequencies.  Note that an airport
concouse full of simultaneously running cellphones *are* in the *same
segment* of the *same band* and manage to not interfere.
