[ale] mailing list: a modest proposal

After all of the debate over the mailing list, an idea came to me: Why not make this a membership-only group on Google Groups? That would cut the administration tasks considerably and it would give people a chance to either receive every e-mail or drop in and visit the group when they feel like it. Just a thought. It seems to me like that would address a lot of the annoyances expressed in the thread earlier this week.
