[ale] Debian/Clamav/Exim4 help

I have been working on the following for a couple of days now without
success. I wanted to try a different solution for email scanning on my
Debian box. This is Debian Etch running exim4 and I would "like" to set
up clam-Av for email scanning. Installed all clam-Av packages and have
exim4-heavy installed. I "should" be able to do this without
amavisd-new. I have followed the Debian.Readme for clam-Av and made the
requested changes to exim and clam-Av files, have tried restarting both
exim and clam-Av as well as a reboot of the system. Clamscan will
identify test virus files and exim4 is still receiving mail. The
problem is that it never scans any mail. Googling for the past couple of
days has not turned up anyone with the same problem or a cure. Any and
all pointers or ideas appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim
