Yes, I have used MythTV to capture and record (Over The Air) HDTV. I have
only had limited success. However, I am a relative noob to Linux (and
computer tech in general).

I have been installing a multi-machine MythTV system in my home primarily as
a learning exercise. Unfortunately, as soon as I get the system working
well, I try to increase the functionality/performance of the system
and invariable break it.

I am confident that MythTV is the OS approach to take. However, I would be
very hard pressed to recommend MythTV for the person in search of the
"Ultimate Hi-Def Home Theatre." TIVO make too good a product.

If you are looking a fun project and possess intermediate or better linux
skills give it a try. KnoppMyth is the easiest to install. I hear Ubuntu
includes MythTV in its most recent release. (I have yet to try it.) Most
folks work with Jarod Wilson's installation instructions and Fedora Core.
