Then using an NMS like Netcool or HPOV would be what is required.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but if the monitoring involves
over 1000 servers I would _not_ resort to any method that required
polling. Having an SNMP agent on each server that can report back to a
central NMS is the only way to go.
If you need to know about temp on each server you'll need at max to pool
1000 servers every 5 minutes. That is sub optimal. You need an agent
on each system that can monitor the temp every 10s and report back to
you when a threshold has been reached.
Unless there is an OSS tool that can meet these requirements it appears
you'll need to spend some $$$.
