Would not matter even without one, it takes a *lot* more than that to get my
goat. Now if only /confusing/ me was as difficult:)

As far as I know the only way to *not* have /home separate with Mandriva is
to force it to install that way. The default install has / and /home on
separate partitions. All of our working installs here also have /user
and /var separate. Only a few test installs with the default.

One more advantage of upgrading via "install around /home" verses a true
upgrade (assuming that a totally clean install works correctly on a given
box.) is that any remaining problems will be in your user space. Much
easier to find verses an upgrade that might have problems scatted almost
anywhere.

One minor disadvantage is that any installed packages not included in
Mandriva's pre-caned "groups" of related packages, must be re-installed.
Unless you remembered to go into individual package selection during the
install and hunt them down. Since I'm basically lazy I usually just wait
until I need them again.

Yes, or make the backup and then try diffrent ways first...

BTW, someday I'm going to learn the "correct" way to restore from a backup.
Something tells me you would use a whole bunch of smileys if I confessed to
how I have done so in the past;-)
