well, except he wants RHL 9 under Debian. With vmware esx it'd be RHL 9 
beside Debian, both on top of esx (not sure if the difference matters, 
other than his hardware probably isn't supported by esx -- no one's is 
unless they spec'ed it while actively planning for esx ;-)

For one on top of the other, options are either Xen, qemu (slow!), or 
VMware workstation, gsx, or server (the free gsx stuff)

BTW, esx pricing just got a lot cheaper. There's now a "Starter" edition 
of esx 3 which is $1k per every 2 processors
